Documentary: "Good Hair" [Chris Rock]

As a black woman who wears hair weaves, or the sugar-coated phrase "extensions", I am MORE than thrilled about this documentary put together by Chris Rock about the black hair industry. Maybe then people will understand the history of hair weaves and the importance of black hair care. I absolutely love the contribution black women in the entertainment industry put towards this film. What up Nia Long, Raven Simone, and Megan Good?! I would have really like to see Wendy Williams represent...she's like the queen of hair weaves.

The assumption is that black woman don't have "good hair" or hell, that we don't have hair at all. WRONG! I have a head full of hair. My reason for wearing weaves is simply because of the versatility. Natural hair can be a tad bit boring and plain. Okay, TOTALLY boring and plain. There's only but so much you can do with it. With hair weaves you can go short, long, curly, straight, blonde, blue, brown. Get your Diana Ross on one day, then the next day come into work with the low-cut Halle Berry haha...there is infinite possibilities people!! lol

And what's up with this idea that only black woman are in the beauty supply buying hair?! I know White women, Hispanic women, Asian woman and Jewish women wear hair extensions and LOVE it. Just to spit some knowledge at you, Jewish woman participate in a practice called "Tzniut" where they wear wigs to cover their hair to represent their faith and loyalty to their husbands. And what!! lol

I remember the first time I ever wore a hair weave. I came to school with a new outfit on and everythangg lol I expected to get tons of compliments, but no one could believe it. Instead, the responses were more like, "You have such nice hair...why would you wear weave?!" Then my white girlfriends of course tried to touch it. And we all know the #1 rule when it comes to a black woman's hair....DON'T TOUCH IT.....whether it's real or not!

There are some downfalls of course. Such as the dependency black women have on hair weave. Once you get one, you have to get a thousand. Doesn't matter if your wig(ing) it out, getting a full head of weave, a couple of pieces, braids, or a perm. It's like a crack addiction. And it's expensive. The black hair industry is a 9 billion dollar industry! Wowzers O_o Still, I remain a loyal customer ;)
